Abstract

Following evolving electricity markets, Transmission System Operators face challenges in processes of Net Transfer Capacity calculations. Increasing uncertainties stemming from growing electricity trade exchanges, make traditional monthly calculations obsolete. To enhance system stability, the paper proposes an implementation of a fast capacity calculation method aligned with day-ahead market principles. The study discusses capacity calculation regions aligning with European Legislation, particularly examining the Albanian Power System as a case study and introduces an improved approach to net transfer capacity calculations. The paper proposes and implements a Python algorithm to automate the net transfer capacity calculation process, obtaining improved efficiency in the calculation process. The paper emphasizes the importance of in ensuring power system security, promoting cross-border trade, and easing market developments, offering a practical solution to the problem of net transfer capacity calculation.
